I would say it's very difficult. If they are with family, they'll be going thru the motions of reading etc. Even if you saw someone looking at entertainment on their tablet, they still could consider themselves a good JW.
At the place where I work, except for the JW in the office wanting to tell everyone that the world is horrible, the other two - you wouldn't be able to guess that they are JW's. But they all consider themselves to be a "good" JW.
And of course, you have to be careful about approaching someone and hinting that you might not belong to the hive.

Hahaha that brother in the vid, just about said what Lett did about Apostates. "They're spreading lies"
And "Whatever financial, personal records we have published we can share them. But we are like any other religion, we aren't obligated to share anything with them."

eyeus2badub - But being a jw as a teenager in the 60's probably kept me from using drugs and fornicating.
There is that. But it also set me up for low self esteem, depression, anxiety and hopelessness. On top of that, I didn't take care of myself physically.

JWs made me hate school
by StephaneLaliberte inyesterday, i had an epiphany.
i realized that the jw religion made my experience in school awful and i hated school because of this.. yesterday, my kids had an activity where the whole school was out at the park, playing baseball, soccer, other pic-nic games and even swimming pools.
during the day, i had conversations with the teachers and saw the kids out, playing having fun.

I went thru school feeling embarrassed and out of place because of the religion. While my older sister snuck in activities, I would just accept things as they were.
I think of all the people that have school friends to this day. Robbed of those early connections, it makes it difficult now. A pox on all the minions and leaders of the WT.

Image: Great Tribulation
by OrphanCrow inthe org's fear theme has really been emphasized recently- the bunker video and now the convention video with jws being pursued by guys with assault rifles.
this image comes from the watchtower july 2017 questions from readers: would it be fitting for a christian to keep a firearm, such as a handgun or a rifle, for protection against other humans?.
the caption for the image is this: during the great tribulation, christians will rely on jehovah and not try to defend themselves.

I'm always surprised when they show "brothers" with bulked out arms. Isn't it "worldly" to concentrate on getting a great bod at the gym? Spending hours on your body instead of out in service? or studying or praying etc.

"Nothing is particularly wrong with the above mentioned ring"
I suspect they published that because they had Good Old Boys rings already made.

Romans 13:13 For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; 14 for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.
The bible itself says that a Christian is liable to the authorities if they do evil/crime.

Jesus with an iPad. Really?
by punkofnice inat a local meeting, one of the elders said that if jesus were on the earth today 'you can be sure' he would be preaching by showing videos on a tablet.. i kid you not.. i wonder what videos he'd be playing?.
obviously this was the elder's own pet theory.
wasn't it?.

jwleaks - Evidently Moses was the first servant of God to own a tablet, or two, which were capable of downloading data from the cloud.
I so love that comment.

Born ins: did you have "near life experiences"?
by truthseeker ini recently watched the 90s movie fight club for the first time and heard the phrase "near life experience.".
for me, a different definition of this phrase would be someone who grew up in the truth and led a very secluded and restricted life (like me) but on rare occasions actually experienced something that was considered quite normal by most people.. growing up in "the troof" was depressing.
it was characterized by long periods of loneliness.

My worldly dad would take us camping for about a week in the summer. Nature, streams, hiking and roasting marshmallows. Then it was back to the fearful meetings.
I also got to spend 2 weeks at my worldly grandma's house. I helped plant her garden. I was so thrilled to be asked to make her coffee in the morning. I loved my grandma so I put in 2 scoops instead of the one she had told me to put in. As I watched her sip the coffee, once and then twice, she slowly asked if I had put more in? I said yes, and she just silently nodded her head and said "maybe tomorrow, you could put just one in" Lol, I knew nothing about coffee.
At her house, I felt like I was a valued person. Just a normal loved human. It was the only real love I had growing up.
